A 40th Birthday Rust-Belt Roadtrip to the Totality
Matt’s turning 40. The world’s going dark. We’re going on tour.

0406: Milwaukee
The blackout tour begins with a drive to Milwaukee We’ll be staying at the Iron Horse Hotel and venturing out from there. Drive time: 1:43

0407: Detroit
Day two takes us to Detroit for the first of two stops. We have a room booked in the Motor City at the Siren Hotel. Drive time: 5:32.

0408: Buffalo
Day three we land at the Richardson Hotel in Buffalo in time for the totality at 3:18. We then continue the birthday revelry. Drive time: 4:11.

0409: Detroit
We are back in Detroit for night four, this time staying at the Shinola Hotel (with its beautiful leather smells, we assume). Drive time: still 4:11.

0410: Milwaukee
We land in Milwaukee for our penultimate night of this rust-belt roadtrip. We’ve reserved a room at the Journeyman. Drive time: 5:32.

0412: Princeton
We end the trip back in Princeton at the illustrious Parlor Hotel. Strangers and tourists are welcome. Drive time: 1:43.

We plan to spend our time enjoying the food and beverage scenes in these cool rust-belt cities. Greg will probably make us check out a few murals and Matt will have some art-deco lobbies in older independent hotels that he’ll need to check off his list. Generally, expect a chill vibe.

NOTE: Buffalo, NY is in the path of totality for the solar eclipse on Matt’s actual B-day! Hotel rooms are hard to come by and pricey.
